Private Day Tour from Munich

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Rothenburg has been called Germany’s fairy-tale dream town and is one of the best preserved medieval towns in the country.

Rothenburg, being so quaint and pretty, obviously attracts many visitors, but somehow the town manages to maintain its charm. During the Rothenburg private day tour from Munich you will travel centuries back and stroll among medieval half-timbered houses. You will hear about war and peace and a gallon-sized tankard. And you’ll possibly walk away as the owner of some new Christmas ornaments.

Ideas for our Rothenburg day tour from Munich

  • We want to leave as early as possible because this is a long drive. The good thing about this (besides the nap) is that a guide can give you tons of background information on the way. We could make a stop halfway at the Harburg Castle, a real medieval castle from the 11th century. Tour the inside or just have a coffee—it’s worth it.
  • Once in Rothenburg, we would do a short tour to get orientated. It’s a great thing to do, having the main sights pointed to, since the town is so full of beautiful half-timbered houses and dangerous interesting shops that it is easy to forget the time and end up missing musts.
  • During lunch we would plan our afternoon. Rothenburg’s famous Christmas shop is a must, as is a walk on the medieval wall, and maybe the Criminal Museum? Going up the tower of the Town Hall and sitting in the Market Square eating a snowball also rank high… Not to forget Riemenschneider’s Altar in the main church!

PRACTICALITIES

  • If it fits your plans, our suggestion would be: spend a night in Rothenburg. First, you will have time for everything. Second, you won’t spend almost 6 hours of the same day in a car. And third, Rothenburg attracts mostly day tourists, which means at night the town (almost) belongs to you. Oh, and fourth: it will give you the opportunity of doing the night watch tour!
  • A popular option is to combine this with our Nuremberg private day tour, spending the night in Rothenburg.
