Private Day Tour from Munich

Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein, the fairy-tale, the Disney castle… no matter what you call it, Neuschwanstein is a must.

We are often asked why our most popular tour is the Neuschwanstein Castle private day tour, and why it is a must despite the crowds. The reasons are many. First it is in a dream-land location, surrounded by lakes and green hills and with the Alps in the background. Next, Walt Disney was inspired by it to build his Sleeping Beauty’s castle, making it the symbol of all fairy-tale castles. And last but not least, its history is just fascinating!

ALL OUR TOURS ARE PRIVATE AND THUS HIGHLY CUSTOMIZABLE

Approach to our Neuschwanstein Castle day tour from Munich

  • During our 1.5 hours drive we will decide whether we go up to the castle on foot, horse drawn carriage or bus. The walk, the views from Marienbrücke towards the castle, the fresh mountain air all add up to make this already an unforgettable experience.
  • The tour inside the castle lasts around 30 minutes, but then there are the shops, and with one thing and the other by the time we get out it will be lunch time. From a quick sausage on the go to a hearty Bavarian meal to an upscale lunch by the lake, there are options for everyone’s tastes.

Options for the rest of the day

  • A popular option for the afternoon is to combine this tour with a visit of Linderhof Palace. But we could also be going for a walk around the lake Alpsee at the foot of the castle. Or making a stop at the Wieskirche, an amazing UNESCO World Heritage church. Or going for a stroll to Oberammergau, the famous Passion Play town… All these activities don’t need preplanning and all would be a relaxed way of letting this beautiful day come to an end before driving back to Munich.

PRACTICALITIES

  • This tour is not really doable under 8 hours; if you want to do something in the afternoon, count with 9-10 hours. Don’t worry, they fly by!
  • We are extremely flexible, but on this tour we depend on the allotted time the castle gives us for visiting; we can express wishes, but there is no guarantee they will comply.
  • Getting into Neuschwanstein involves a certain amount of walking and stairs which cannot be avoided. Please keep that in mind and wear comfortable shoes.
  • King Ludwig II built (or started to built) 3 palaces: Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee. The first two can be combined in one day; to visit the third, please have a look at our private tour to Herrenchiemsee Palace.
